The Dubai Criminal Court has sentenced a gang of four African women to life imprisonment after they were convicted of drug trafficking.

The women were arrested by the Dubai Police's General Department of Narcotics Control following a successful sting operation.

In this case, Dubai Police received information indicating that the primary suspect was distributing narcotics and psychotropic substances.

An undercover female officer reached out to the main suspect, posing as a buyer and arranging a meeting to purchase the drugs. On the day of the delivery, the police set up a trap at the agreed location.

The suspect arrived with two other women and a male driver. The undercover officer received psychotropic pills from the primary suspect in exchange for Dh2,000.

Once the exchange was made, the police moved in, arresting the primary suspect, the three women, and the driver.

The driver was later acquitted of all charges, but the women were found guilty of trafficking drugs. In addition to life sentences, the women were ordered to be deported after serving their sentences.

In a separate case, a woman was convicted of using narcotics and psychotropic drugs.

The incident occurred last year when the General Department of Narcotics Control received a tip-off about the woman’s drug use near Al Qiyada Metro Station.

Investigations revealed that she had obtained the drugs through social media platforms, paying Dh500 to a UAE-based bank account. She later received the location to collect the drugs via WhatsApp.

Dubai Police carried out a security operation and arrested the woman near her home while she was driving. Authorities discovered narcotics classified under Schedules 1 and 5 of Controlled Substances.

Lab tests confirmed the presence of drugs in her system. During her interrogation, she admitted to obtaining the drugs from an individual outside the country. As a result, the court sentenced her to 10 years in prison and imposed a Dh100,000 fine.

She will also face deportation after serving her sentence.

The cases highlight the ongoing efforts by the Dubai Police to combat drug-related crimes and the rigorous legal action taken against those involved in drug trafficking and consumption.
